Jay freshmen fall to Eagles, Arabians (11/22/05)

Monday night was rough for Jay County’s freshman basketball teams as they each lost a close game.
The boys team, despite an outstanding effort from Cole Ingram, fell 31-26 to the Delta Eagles. The girls team dropped to 1-2 with a 26-25 loss to the Pendleton Heights Arabians.
Ingram went wild from 3-point range, hitting 6-of-10 from long distance as he finished with 18 points. He also had six rebounds as the Patriots trailed 21-20 after three quarters before getting outscored 10-6 in the fourth.
Dexter Shreve added four points, 10 rebounds and a block. Kyle Simmons had five assists and two steals.
Chelsea Grady had eight points for the girls team, which trailed by five at halftime and couldn’t quite complete the comeback. Mackenzie Loy and Kristi Morningstar each added six points.
Three finish first
CONNERSVILLE — A trio of Jay County winter swimmers finished atop their age groups as the team competed at the Connersville Turkey Trot Invitational this weekend.
Jay County was dominant in the 6-and-younger and 8-and-younger girls divisions.
Anne Vormohr was the top point scorer in the 8-and-younger girls division, and Sophie Bader followed her in second place. Alex Bader, Sophie’s sister, brought home the high-point total for the 6-and-younger girls.
Justin Klopp was also victorious as he scored the most points in the 13-and-older boys division. Sam Miller followed Klopp in third place.
Eagle teams stumble
HARTFORD CITY — West Jay’s boys basketball teams each lost to Hartford City Monday.
The eighth graders led by eight points at halftime, but could not hold on in a 52-51 defeat. The seventh graders lost 47-26.
Three members of the eighth grade team scored in double figures, with Nate Brown leading the charge with 15 points. Josh Beaty followed with 12 points, and Taylor Farmer had 10.
The seventh grade team trailed by 16 at the half and managed just two third-quarter points in its defeat. Dusty Rodgers and Anthony Skeens each finished with six points.[[In-content Ad]]
