The Patriots cruised past Oak Hill three weeks ago at the season-opening Norwell Invitational. On Tuesday, they fell short.
Jay County High School’s girls swim team suffered its first loss of the season, dropping a 158-157 heartbreaker to the visiting Golden Eagles.
The JCHS boys also lost 207.5-104.5.
The girls meet came down to the final event with the Oak Hill team of Morgan Tinkel, Samantha Mauk, Kendall Drook and Melissa Ford winning by 20 seconds over the Patriots in the 400-yard freestyle relay to secure the team victory. Mauk also added a pair of individual victories.
Senior Mary Hudson led the Patriots (5-1), dominating the 100 breaststroke in 1 minute, 13.37 seconds and edging Ford in the 100 butterfly in 1:06.14.
Eme Miller and Katy Smeltzer added individual wins for JCHS.
The Jay County boys (1-2) were shut out on the night as Oak Hill’s Collin Brown, Grant Brown and Blair Said each won two events.
Alex Sutton and James Keen each picked up a pair of runner-up finishes for the Patriots.
EJMS boys win
East Jay Middle School’s seventh grade boys basketball team dominated visiting Union City West Side 43-20 Tuesday. The eighth grade team earned its first victory, 32-27.
Ryan Burkett led all scorers in the seventh grade game, powering the EJMS seventh graders (2-2) with 14 points. Jay Houck was right behind him with 13 points.
Kyler Carvel totaled 11 points to lead the Chief eighth grade team (1-3). Adam Dirksen scored nine points.
Eagles suffer loss
GASTON — The West Jay eighth grade boys basketball team fell 46-24 Tuesday to the host Wes-Del Warriors.
Lance Ferguson finished with 11 points and six rebounds in the defeat. Joey Springer had 10 points and four assists.
Loy leads Chiefs
East Jay’s eighth grade girls basketball team picked up a 33-20 win Monday over visiting Muncie Wilson.
Cheyenne Loy paced the Chiefs in the win with eight points and six rebounds. Abby Wendel followed with seven points.[[In-content Ad]]
