Downs update

The local connection at Indiana Downs continues to be strong, with a victory in the last week by a local owner and a former resident who continues to make a strong showing in the jockey standings at the track.

Sheri Loy of rural Portland was listed as the owner, trainer and breeder of Rare Cigar, a quarter horse that won the 12th race at Indiana Downs on Saturday.

Jockey Rodney Prescott, a graduate of Jay County High School, continues to have a strong meet at the new track, as he was tied for third in total wins (seven) and is second in starts (59) through Wednesday, April 23.

In those 59 rides Prescott also had nine seconds and seven thirds, finishing in the money 39 percent of the time. His mounts had earned a total of $104,400.

Prescott also won two races Saturday and one on Thursday, along with several seconds and thirds. Those finishes were not included in the totals on the Indiana Downs website at www.indianadowns.com.[[In-content Ad]]
