MUNCIE — The Patriots earned a split as they took on their former Olympic Athletic Conference rivals.
Jay County High School’s girls golf team posted a 227 Monday to finish second in a three-team match at Crestview Golf Club. The Connersville Spartans won with a 179, and the Muncie Southside Rebels were last at 259.
Alysia Fennig opened her round for the Patriots with a birdie on the par-5 10th hole at Crestview. She added three bogeys on the way to a team-best 52.
Lindsey Hackelman of Connersville earned medalist honors with a 41, and Kayla McDonald led Southside with a 58.
Katlin Petro finished with four bogeys as she followed Fennig for JCHS with a 54, and Brittany Stevens had one par en route to a 57. Whitney Gray completed the team score with a 64, and Cortney Myers shot 74.

Netters fall to Bruins
Jay County’s boys tennis team pulled out one comeback win in three sets, but that was all it could muster in a 4-1 loss Monday to the visiting Blackford Bruins.
Brad Leuthold suffered a shutout loss to Chase Twibell in the opening set at No. 2 singles, but then came roaring back. He forced a third set and then knocked off Twibell in a tiebreaker for a 0-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) win.
The No. 2 doubles match also went three sets, with Evan Mathias and Tony Schwieterman falling 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 7-5 to Trevor Smith and Bailey Landis. Chance Fuller and Morton Garringer lost 6-2, 6-0 to Aric Durm and Ethan Harriett at No. 1 doubles.
Derek Smith lost 6-3, 6-2 to Evan Baughey at No. 1 singles, and Landry Inman dropped the No. 3 singles match 6-3, 7-5 to Mitchell Lanning.

JV football rolls
Chase Louck and Zach Metcalf each scored twice Monday in the Patriots’ 48-0 drubbing of the visiting Winchester Golden Falcons.
Metcalf scored on runs of 40 and 12 yards for Jay County, which jumped out to a 28-0 lead in the first quarter, and Louck had TD runs of 25 and 5 yards. Andrew Eely also scored on the ground, and Wesley Hibbard tossed a 30-yard TD pass to Corey Bellis.
Radney Pearson returned in an interception for a touchdown.

EJMS runners win
DECATUR — The East Jay Middle School girls cross country team placed all of its runners in the top seven to defeat host Bellmont 25-36 Monday. The boys team also won, 26-30.
Emi Minnich led the EJMS girls team, placing third overall in 12 minutes, 55 seconds. Megan Wellman was fourth in 13:07 followed by Erica Kunkler (fifth – 14:09), Sophie Bader (sixth – 14:11) and Kellie Fortkamp (seventh – 14:12).
Michael Denney turned in the top effort for the Chief boys, crossing the finish line in 13:07 for third place. Matthew Cox was fourth in 13:23 ahead of Tim Hein (fifth – 13:25), Mark Hein (sixth – 13:26) and Trevor Miller (eighth – 13:51).
Eagles top Blackford
DUNKIRK — West Jay Middle School’s boys cross country team knocked off visiting Blackford 26-30 Monday.
Quinton Huggett led the Eagles with a runner-up finish, and Tanner Craw was third. Kyler Karvel finished in fifth place, with Travis Barton seventh and Nathan Hamilton ninth.

Bruggeman leads
Mitchell Bruggeman led Team Kohler to a 13-7 victory Sunday over South Adams in Portland Junior League fall baseball.
Bruggeman went 3-for-4, including a double and a triple, with three runs in the win. Gage Capper and Jake Carpenter added two hits and two runs apiece.
Braxton Cole had a hit and a run for South Adams.[[In-content Ad]]
