Jay gymnasts lose at Connersville

CONNERSVILLE — Katie Snyder won a pair of events Tuesday, but the Patriots still took their second loss of the season.
Jay County High School’s gymnastics team fell 99.7-94.725 to the Connersville Spartans, slipping to 3-2 on the season.
Snyder took the top spot on the vault with a 9.1 and also tied for first with an 8.7 on the floor exercise. She placed third on the other two events, scoring on 8.25 on the balance beam and an 8.15 on the uneven bars.
Tasya Smith added a third-place effort on the vault (8.75) and Shelby Pryor was third on the floor (7.875) for the Patriots, whose lonely other loss came to Carroll.
Smith added scores of 7.05 on the bars and 6.9 on the beam. Malarie Houck scored for JCHS on every with an 8.725 on the vault, 7.65 on the floor, 7.05 on the bars and 6.5 on the beam.

Three players scored in double figures Tuesday to lead the Jay County freshman boys basketball team to its seventh straight win, 45-29 over the visiting Wapahani Raiders.
Justin Dirksen led the way with 14 points for the Patriots, who outscored Wapahani 26-10 in the second half. Nick Clemmons added 11 points, and Nate Brackman scored 10.
Eagles stumble

DUNKIRK — The West Jay Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team struggled in the second half of Tuesday’s 42-23 home loss to the Southern Wells Raiders.
Dan Meranda finished with 14 points to lead the Eagles, who were outscored 20-6 after the intermission. He also had five rebounds.

EJMS 7th rolls
East Jay’s seventh grade boys basketball team earned its 10th win Tuesday, topping the visiting Delta Eagles 34-27. The eighth graders fell 35-21.
The sixth grade team lost 44-35 on the road to Muncie Wilson.
Ryan Burkett led the way with 10 points for the seventh grade Chiefs, who improved to 10-2. Zach Chaney chipped in seven points.
Adam Dirksen finished with 13 points for the eighth graders (4-10). Bryce Hensley and Bowen Runyon each added three.
Ethan Myers scored more than half of the points for the sixth grade squad (2-1), racking up 22. Grant Keihn finished with seven.[[In-content Ad]]
