Jay gymnasts third at Valpo (01/15/07)

Jay County came home with a third-place finish in Saturday's six-way Valparaiso Gymnastics Invitational, finishing with 95.15 points.
Host Valparaiso won the meet with 107.825, well ahead of New Castle (101.625).
Nadlie Runyon led the Patriot effort, finishing sixth on the beam, sixth in the all-around, ninth in the vault, 10th on the bars, and 10th in the floor competition.
Erika Hunt finished eighth on the bars, ninth in the all-around, 14th in the vault, 15th on the beam, and 17th in floor competition.
Kristin Brown was seventh in all-around, eighth on the beam, 12th in floor competition, 17th on the bars, and 21st in the vault.
Kendra Homan was 16th in the vault, and Jenny Buckland was 13th in floor competition.
East Jay 2nd
East Jay Middle School's wrestling squad finished second in the Bellmont Quad meet on Saturday. Bellmont won the meet. The East Jay squad topped Muncie Wilson 63-22 and Fort Wayne Snider 52-39 but fell to Bellmont 57-33.
Triple winners at the varsity level were Dyllan Derrickson, Chandler Stout, D.J. Teeple, and Cody Bellis.
Starfires 3-2
South Adams won its first three matches of the day on Saturday, defeating Northeastern 54-22, Alexandria 51-27, and Daleville 58-15.
The Starfires then came up short against Southridge, losing 39-25. In the battle for third-place, South Adams fell to Centerville 38-31 to finish fourth in the ten-way Tri-High Super Duals.
Compete at Indy
Kristen Ainsworth and Katie Snyder of Gym City Gymnastics competed Sunday at the Indy School of Gymnastics in Level 7.
Ainsworth, 14, finished first in both the vault and floor competition. She was second in all-around for her age group and placed fourth on the beam.
Snyder, 12, was third in both the vault and floor competition in her age group.
Eighth champs
East Jay Middle School's eighth grade boys basketball team won the championship Saturday in tournament play.
The eighth graders first defeated St. Joe 33-28, then went on to top Bellmont 39-37 in the championship. Garrett Krieg led the East Jay squad with 16 points in the first game and 14 points in the second. Austin Mann had 13 points in the championship game. The seventh graders fell to St. Joe 25-23 in the opener, then defeated West Jay 30-10 in the consolation round.[[In-content Ad]]
