Erika Hunt wouldn't allow her final home meet to end without some fanfare.
The Jay County High School senior posted a 9.1 on the floor exercise - her performance on the event was the last of the meet - to push the Patriot gymnastics team to a 100.675-91 victory over the visiting Delta Eagles.
It was the first nine of Hunt's career, and lifted JCHS over the century mark for the first time this season. The previous high score for the team was 99.525 in a victory over Muncie Central on Feb. 7.
Hunt won a pair of events for the Patriots, narrowly missing her first nine earlier in the meet when she took the vault with an 8.925. She finished as the runner-up to freshman teammate Kristen Ainsworth on both the uneven bars (7.9) and balance beam (8.4) before taking the floor exercise for a winning all-around score of 34.325.
Ainsworth's winning scores on the beam and bars were 8.5 and 8.15 respectively, and she was the floor runner-up at 8.6. She also scored an 8.7 on the vault.
Jennifer Buckland placed third on the balance beam with an 8.25, and Stormi Metcalf was third on the bars with a 7.25. Buckland also scored an 8.0 on the floor.
Maranda Mastin was the only Delta gymnast to crack the top three, placing third on the vault (8.8), floor (8.3) and bars (7.25).
Jay County and the Eagles will both compete in the Muncie Central sectional Saturday at 11 a.m. The Patriots have earned regional berths in each of the previous five seasons.
Delta did not field a junior varsity team.
Lexie Rowles won three of the four events for Jay County, scoring a 7.0 on the floor, 6.725 on the beam and 6.65 on the bars. Kyli Kelso and Melynda Brackman tied for the vault victory, each scored at 8.075.[[In-content Ad]]
