Jay horses snag two wins (07/23/05)

Two more Jay County-owned horses posted wins at Indiana Downs this week.
On Wednesday, Leebee’s Number won a $3,600 purse in a $5,000 claimer with a time of 1:58.8. Trained by J.R. Walker and driven by Jay Cross, the horse is owned by Mark Heath, Mike Wamsley, Glen Alexander, and Donald Rich.
On Thursday, Jordan’s Big Dog won a $3,200 purse in a $4,000 claimer with a time of 1:57.8. Driven by Brian Carpenter, the horse is owned by Samuel Samples and Brian McGalliard, who is also its trainer.
Game canceled
Friday’s Geneva Cardinals game was canceled after members of the Lima Express were injured in an accident while traveling to the game.
Summer league
The Randolph County YMCA is organizing a summer basketball league.
If there is sufficient interest, the league will have two divisions. Interested team captains should contact the YMCA in Winchester at 765-584-9622, leaving a message for Tom, including a contact name and phone number.
The league is scheduled to begin in mid-August, with play in the evenings on either Tuesday or Wednesday nights.
Mini-camp at Archbold
The Northwest Ohio Federation Baseball League will host its annual college day mini-camp for high school athletes graduating in 2006 and 2007. Recent 2005 graduates are also welcome. College coaches from Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana will be present.
The event will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Archbold High School, 600 Lafayette St., Archbold, Ohio.
The cost of the mini-camp is $10 for those players not affiliated with the league. For more information, phone 419-446-2105.
Hoosier registration
The Hoosier Diamond Fall Baseball League, based in Noblesville, is now accepting applications. The league has three divisions of competition.
The junior varsity division is for players in grades 7 through 9. The open varsity division is for players in grades 9 through 12. The high school select division is for players in grades 10 through 12.
All players participating in the high school select division must have the signature of their high school coach on the application.
The league involves four weeks of play, with doubleheaders each week and a season ending tournament the fifth week. All games are on Sundays, beginning Aug. 28. The tournament will be on Oct. 3.
