Jay JV improves to 4-1 (04/29/05)

PORTLAND — Jay County’s junior varsity softball team improved to 4-1 Thursday with an 8-1 beating of the Muncie Southside Rebels.

Shae Keller paced the offense with three hits, three RBIs and three stolen bases. Leah Murray was 2-for-4 with a double, three runs, an RBI and a stolen base.

Amber Detro had three hits, including a double, and Lauren Edmundson had a pair of runs.

Amanda Lowe got the win to improve to 3-0, allowing one run on four hits as she went the distance. She struck out six and walked one.

Eagles split with WD

DUNKIRK — Andrew Lancaster racked up a trio of victories Thursday to lead the West Jay boys track team to a 56-44 win over the Wes-Del Warriors. The girls team lost to Wes-Del, 60-40.

Lancaster took two of his three wins in field events, finishing first in the discus (121 feet) and the shot put. He also took the 400-meter run in 1-minute, two seconds.

Sha White took first in the hurdles in 18.5 seconds, Chris Mooney won the 800 run in 2:36 and Mills was first in the 1,600 run in 5:25. Alan Brown, Blake Price, Zach Cash and Mills teamed to win the 4x400 relay in 5:14.

Lindsay Current was the lone double winner for the girls team as she won both the high jump and long jump. Kelci Reed was first in the 1,600 run, Kristen Selvey won the 400 run and the team of Macey Gerber, Lauren Murrell, Brittany Burris and Reed took the 4x400 relay.

Clinic scheduled

The Jay County High School boys and girls swim teams will host a series of clinics next week.

The Monday clinic will focus on the butterfly, followed by backstroke on Tuesday, breaststroke Wednesday, freestyle Thursday and starts and turns Friday. Each one will run in two sessions with those 9-and-younger from 6 to 7 p.m. and 10-and-older from 7 to 8 p.m.

The cost is $5 per individual day or $20 for the entire week. The entry fee may be collected on the first night of the clinic.

Swim practice set

The Jay County summer swim team has announced its practice schedule for the upcoming season.

Practice sessions will begin Monday, May 9 at the Jay County High School pool. Swimmers 11-and-older will practice from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m., and those 10-and-younger will follow form 5 to 5:45 p.m. Practices will be held every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Registration for the team will be held during the first week of practice. The cost is $35.

Hoop camp scheduled

The Jay County High School boys basketball program will hold its basketball camp for third through eighth graders June 13 through 17.

Third and fourth graders will camp from 10 to 11 a.m., with fifth and sixth graders from 11 a.m. to noon and seventh and eighth graders from 12:30 to 2 p.m. The cost of the camp is $30, which includes a T-shirt.
