Jay REMC meeting set for April 8 (04/01/06)

The Jay County REMC will hold its 70th annual meeting Saturday, April 8, in the Jay County High School auditorium.
Four candidates are running for seats on the local REMC board. The candidates are Harold Smith, Richard Paxson, Michael Ninde and Tom Zimmerman.
Registration for the meeting begins at 6 p.m., with entertainment for children and adults until the start of the business meeting at 7 p.m. Children’s activities will continue until the close of the meeting.
Attendance gifts include a $10 bill credit, light bulb and wall plate and there will be a drawing for the grand prize; a three night Caribbean Cruise.
Marketing mall
NAI Harding Dahm commercial real estate services of Fort Wayne has started marketing its new Portland strip mall to retail establishments. Portland Plaza Shopping Center is scheduled for opening in June.
Located across from the new Super Wal-Mart on Ind. 26, the center up to 10 units available, ranging from 1,600 to 14,700 square feet and eighty parking spaces.

The Jay County Development Corporation will hold a meeting April 4 at the Community Resource Center, 118 S. Meridian St., Portland, at 4 p.m.

The Portland Area Chamber of Commerce will hold “Business After Hours,” hosted by Albertson’s Floor Covering, 119 E. Main St., Portland, Wednesday, April 12, at 5 p.m.
All chamber members are registered to win $100 in chamber gift certificates and other door prizes, but must be present to win.
WorkOne to hold seminar
WorkOne of East Central Indiana will hold a labor and management seminar April 21 from 7 to 10 a.m. at Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana, 4301 S. Cowan Rd., Muncie, North Instructional Building Room 532.
The seminar will focus on a variety of topics, including teaching attendees to increase their skill levels, improve safety and acquire skills for job promotion.
Keynote speaker will by Rick Streepy, owner of Workforce Development Concepts.
The seminar will begin with a continental breakfast. The cost is underwritten by the East Central Indiana Workforce Investment Board and is free to attendees.

Bluffton Regional Medical Center officials announced Thursday that it has received a three-year term of accreditation in ultrasound as a result of a survey completed by the American College of Radiology.
