INDIANAPOLIS - The Patriots have had their last two games postponed because of snow. They'll get another day off, this time thanks to a tournament bye.
Jay County High School's girls basketball team picked up the bye in the tournament draw held Thursday evening and will play in the semifinal round of the tournament Friday, Feb. 13, at 6 p.m. South Adams, which will host Class 2A's Sectional 38, also got a first-round bye.
JCHS, which is 16-0 and ranked No. 5 in Class 4A, will play in the Sectional 6 semifinal round at Fort Wayne North Side against the winner of the Tuesday, Feb. 10, opening-round game between Homestead (10-6) and Fort Wayne South Side (14-3).
The other opening-round game will pit the host Redskins (3-13) against Marion (13-4). The winner of the game will play Huntington North (7-10) in the second semifinal game Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m.
There will be just one first-round game Feb. 10 at SAHS, with Adams Central (1-16) taking on Woodlan (6-9). South Adams (5-10) will play Bluffton (2-14) in semifinal action Feb. 13, and Bishop Luers (13-5) will take on the Adams Central/Woodlan winner in the second game.
Both championship games will be Saturday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m. Winners will advance to the Huntington North and Cass regional tournaments respectively.
Jay County is 2-0 against sectional opponents during the regular season, with both wins coming by double digits. The Patriots opened the year with a 52-33 win over South Side and also defeated Huntington North 60-47.
Marion has won its only game against sectional competition. South Side is 3-1 followed by Homestead (2-1), North Side (0-2) and Huntington North (0-4).
South Adams is 1-1 versus sectional opponents with a 44-34 win over Bluffton and a 64-48 loss to Woodlan, which has also defeated Bluffton and Adams Central. Bluffton is 2-2, Adams Central is 0-3 and Bishop Luers does not play any sectional teams during the regular season.[[In-content Ad]]
