JCHS/SAHS boys swimming

MONROE and BERNE — With the girls teams awaiting the sectional, the area boys swim teams were dominant Tuesday.

Jay County’s boys won all but one event, hammering the host Adams Central Jets 119-33. The South Adams squad played host to the DeKalb Barons and rolled to a 103-67 victory.

A pair of swimmers from each team picked up two wins as the boys battled alone while their female counterparts prepare for the sectional preliminaries at Homestead Thursday. Joseph Vormohr and Lance VanSkyock powered the Patriots while Matt Kruse and Justin Klopp led the way for the Starfires.

Vormohr, a senior, was first in the 50-meter freestyle in 29.92 seconds, and won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1-minutes, 24.24 seconds. VanSkyock took victories in the 100 freestyle in 1:09.91 and the 100 backstroke in 1:22.81.

Kruse led a sweep in his first victory of the night, placing ahead of teammates Drew Dull and Marcus Hoover in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:06.77. He reached the wall in 57.55 to win the 100 butterfly.

Klopp took the 50 freestyle in 23.73 and the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:04.36.

Other winners for the Patriots were Shan Willoughby in the 200-meter individual medley (3:19.73), Scott Walker in the 100 butterfly (1:16.09), Nathan Cain in the 500 freestyle (7:44.80) and Todd McCowan in diving (180.75). Jay County posted one-two finishes in all three relays.

Additional victories for South Adams came from John Gresla in the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.64) and Kyle Affolder in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.12). The Starfires won the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.[[In-content Ad]]
