Jay spikers go 1-2 at Franklin (09/18/06)

JCHS volleyball

FRANKLIN - The Jay County volleyball team finished 1-2 at the Franklin Community Invitational Saturday, winning its final match of the day.

The Patriots defeated South Decatur 25-16, 25-16 following losses of 25-20, 25-19 to Greenfield-Central and 25-21, 25-20 to the host Grizzly Cubs.

Ashley Horn led the Jay County victory over South Decatur with 15 points, five aces and three digs. She finished with weekend with team highs of 22 points and five aces.

Shelby Rines also had five aces as she scored 13 points. The junior shared the team-high of 15 digs with senior Theresa Reinhart, and was second on the squad with 10 kills.

Jessica Muhlenkamp finished with 14 digs and 11 points.

Sarah Westgerdes had 16 kills, and Erica Clark totaled 29 assists.

Junior varsity

Jay County fought to the end, but suffered a 25-23, 9-25, 15-14 loss to the Blackford Bruins Thursday.

Kelci Reed had a huge serving day, scoring 19 points. She was a perfect 21-for-21 serving with six aces.

Julie Alig scored all of her four points with four aces. She added seven digs and three kills.

Kristi Morningstar had nine points and seven digs, Chelsea Grady came up with 21 digs, Amy Alig notched six kills and Liz Walker put up five assists.[[In-content Ad]]
