Jay spikers top host Tigers

BLUFFTON — The Jay County High School volleyball team is just two wins under .500 after rolling to a three-game sweep of the Bluffton Tigers Tuesday, 25-15, 25-20, 27-25.
Mariah Hornaday led the way for the Patriots, who are now 13-15, with team highs of 13 points, 12 kills and two blocks. Senior Tanner Martin added 21 assists and 11 points for JCHS, which won just five matches a year ago.
Maria Murphy followed Hornaday with 11 kills, and Sierra Weatherhead came up with a team high 13 digs. Alyssa Rigby added nine digs.
Jay County’s junior varsity squad rallied for a 16-25, 25-12, 15-13 victory over the Tigers to push its record to 4-11.
Shannon Springer led the win with 11 points, including five aces, and five assists. Paige Lennartz had five assists and five digs.

Middle school
East Jay Middle School’s eighth grade volleyball team earned a 25-15, 25-20 victory Tuesday over visiting R.J. Baskett. The seventh grade Chiefs fell 25-18, 25-17.
Catherine Dunn led the victory for the eighth graders (10-11) with 18 points, nine aces, five digs and three kills. Malarie Houck had seven assists and four kills.
Ava Kunkler finished with three points, two kills and two digs for the seventh grade team (12-9). Kylie Osborne had four points and three assists.[[In-content Ad]]
