Jay sweeps season finale

MIDDLETOWN — All six Patriot golfers shot sub-45 rounds Tuesday as the Jay County High School boys golf team picked up a pair of wins.
JCHS finished with a 167 to knock off the Daleville Broncos and Muncie Southside Rebels, both of which finished at 182. Daleville was second based on the fifth-player tiebreaker.
Drew Houck set the tone for the Patriots, who finished the regular season 10-3, picking up birdies on the par-3 third and par-4 fourth holes. He added three pars en route to shooting a 2-over-par 38.
Ritchie Carducci followed his senior teammate with three pars for a 42. Austin Mann and Evan Mathias each finished at 43 to round out the team score, and Justen Keller and Evan Ryder posted matching 44s.
Austin Creamer had a 39 for Daleville, and William Resler shot 39 to lead Muncie Southside.
Jay County will compete in the Monroe Central sectional Monday at Hickory Hills Golf Club.
Rockets take opener
RICHMOND — The Portland Rockets opened their season Tuesday with a 6-4 victory over the Richmond RiverRats.
Portland trailed 3-1 before getting RBI singles in a four-run eighth inning from Jay County High School graduate Thomas McCowan, Ben Smith and Chandler Sidwell. Brady Roundtree tripled and scored a run in the ninth.
Richmond had a chance to rally in the ninth as it loaded the bases, but the Rockets finished the game on a pop-up.
Daniel Bollenbacher (South Adams) gave up just one hit and one walk in four shutout innings.
McCowan also scored the first run for Portland in the seventh inning when he walked, stole second base and scored on a Sidwell single.
Cox paces All Circuit
Bailey Cox powered the All Circuit Electrical offense Tuesday in a 19-12 Portland Junior League Rookie baseball victory over Williams Auto Parts.
Cox finished 4-for-4 with four runs and four RBIs in the victory. Sean Smith had four hits, four RBIs and two runs.
Qadon Ferrell totaled four hits, four runs and three RBIs for Williams.[[In-content Ad]]
