Two summer swim teams went into the water with perfect records Monday, but Jay County emerged victorious.
Jay’s Summer Swim Team topped Fort Recovery’s Eels 681-476 in a dual meet at the Portland Pool. Jay County is now 6-0 for the season, while the Eels are 5-1.
Eleven Jay swimmers were triple-event winners.
Sophie Bader set a new team and pool record in the 200 IM with a time of 2:36.89, breaking the record previously held by Cori Mormohr at 2:37.51. She finished first in the 15-over girls butterfly, IM, and breaststroke.
Mara Bader took first in the 8-under girls butterfly, IM, and breaststroke. Sophie Saxman was first in the 8-under girls long free, backstroke, and short free. Josh Monroe won the 8-under boys long free, IM, and breaststroke.
Eliza Bader won the 9-10 girls short free, IM, and long free. Christopher McDowell took first in the 11-12 boys long free, backstroke, and short free. Alex Bader was first in the 13-14 girls butterfly, IM, and breaststroke.
Sydney Mathias took first in the 13-14 girls long free, backstroke, and short free. Alex LeMaster won the 13-14 boys long free, breaststroke, and short free.
Anne Vormohr won the 15-over girls long free, backstroke, and short free, while Josh Lykins was first in the 15-over boys long free, backstroke, and IM.
Gavin Thobe won three events for the Eels including the 9-10 boys long free, butterfly, and IM.
Double event winners for Jay County included Lillian Clemmons, who took first in the 9-10 girls butterfly and backstroke; Kaitlyn Dow, who was first in the 11-12 girls long free and short free; and Tayler Smeltzer, who was first in the 11-12 boys butterfly and IM.
Double event winners for Fort Recovery included Nolan Thobe in the 13-14 boys butterfly and IM, Cassidy Martin in the 11-12 girls IM and breaststroke, and Regan Martin in the 9-10 boys breaststroke and short free.
Six Fort Recovery relay teams had first place finishes.
Those included the 8-under girls medley relay, the boys 8-under medley relay, the 9-10 boys medley relay, the 8-under girls free relay, the 8-under boys free relay, and the 9-10 boys free relay.
Single event winners for Jay County included Ashlyn Dow in the 9-10 girls breaststroke, Ezekiel Corwin in the 9-10 boys backstroke, Natalie Blakely in the 11-12 girls butterfly, Elizabeth McDowell in the 11-12 girls backstroke, Luke Nichols in the 11-12 boys breaststroke, Zane Shreve in the 15-over boys breaststroke, and Sok Vormohr in the 15-over boys butterfly.
Single event winners for Fort Recovery included Sage Wendel in the 8-under boys butterfly, Isaac Merrill in the 8-under boys backstroke, Dillon Ramirez in the 13-14 boys backstroke, Stephen Jutte in the 8-under boys short free, and Andy Gray in the 15-over boys short free.[[In-content Ad]]
