Jay takes OAC title

Recovery roundup

MUNCIE - The Olympic Athletic Conference belongs to the Patriots.

Jay County High School's girls soccer team left no doubt Saturday, scoring three times in the first 20 minutes on the way to a 5-0 win over the Muncie Southside Rebels. The victory locked up the OAC title for the Patriots, who defeated their conference foes by a combined score of 8-1 this year.

It took just over three minutes for JCHS (4-7) to get the only goal it needed. Brittany Manor scored on a follow-through shot after a deflection off the Southside goalie at the 36:57 mark of the opening half.

Mallory Poole slammed home an 18-yard shot with 24:15 on the first-half clock, and Lindsay Moser scored off a pass from Kayla Phillips four minutes later for a 3-0 lead.

Mallory Levasseur pushed the advantage to 4-0 with another goal before the intermission, and Loryn Horn stepped up from her defensive position to tally the only goal of the second half.

The Patriots finished with 16 shots on goal, including three from Ranae Ray and two each by Erica Butcher, Mariana Garcia, Moser and Levasseur.
