Jay takes title (09/30/2008)

JCHS boys soccer

MUNCIE - The first of the Patriots goals was to take back the Olympic Athletic Conference title. Now they can start working on goal No. 2.

Jay County High School's boys soccer team put an emphatic end Wednesday to its reclamation effort, blasting the Muncie Southside Rebels 8-0 to win the OAC championship.

JCHS, which is 12-0-1 overall, defeated Connersville 4-0 and Anderson Highland 4-2 before finishing off the title run against Southside. The shutout was their first since the Sept. 2 win over the Spartans.

Junior Brad Horn gave the Patriots their first goal less than four minutes into the game off of a Trey Dunn assist, and the first 20 minutes continued to be an all-out scoring barrage by the visiting team.

Horn scored again five minutes later after taking a pass from Patrick Johnson, and then completed his hat trick with an unassisted goal just over 13 minutes into the game.

Ben Brandt scored from an Isaac Poole assist five minutes later, and less than 2:30 after that Poole converted off an assist by Joe Rasmussen. The 5-0 margin stood until there were 10 minutes left in the opening half, when the defensemen got into the act as Jordan Moser scored on a pass from David Darby.

Senior Trey Dunn scored both second-half goals, the first unassisted and the second after taking a pass from Lance Louth.

Jay County, which has won three straight since settling for a 1-1 tie with Centerville, out-shot the Rebels 24-4. Horn took five shots for JCHS, and Johnson added four.

Austin Duncan and Johnson each made two saves as they combined with starting goalie Adam Daniels for the shutout.[[In-content Ad]]
