Jay tankers break three records at Connersville invite (02/28/05)

CONNERSVILLE — Two more records fell as the Jay County middle school swim teams competed at the Connersville Invitational Saturday.

The girls team set both marks en route to finishing second with 252 points. New Castle was first in 293, and Muncie Northside placed third-at the six-team event with 236.

The boys team finished in fourth place with 218 points. It was behind Muncie Northside (331), Centerville (257) and Connersville (223).

Cori Vormohr was in on both record-setting races, and was in on all three Jay County victories. Her individual record came in the 100-yard butterfly, where she swam a time of 1-minute, 5.35 seconds to finish in first place.

The other team record came as Vormohr, Briann Saxman, Ivy Simons and Michelle Landfair broke their previous mark in the 400 freestyle relay by 10 seconds. The same group won the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Vormohr also won the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.82.

Saxman added a third-place effort in the 100 freestyle in 1:06.31. Landfair was fourth in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:07.63, and April Acker was fourth in diving with 116.15 points.

Chance Milligan, Lance VanSkyock and Steven Kelly each placed second in one of their individual events and fourth in the other.

Milligan was second in the 100 freestyle in 1:12.18, and VanSkyock took second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:19.27. Kelly was the diving runner-up in 129.15.

The fourth-place finishes came in the 50 freestyle for Milligan (27.56), the 100 butterfly for VanSkyock (1:18.80) and the 500 freestyle for Kelly (7:14.41).
