Jay tankers fall to Wells

BLUFFTON - The Jay County Summer Swim Team suffered a 571-511 loss Tuesday to host Wells Community.

Each team picked up 28 individual wins, but Wells won 10 out of the 16 relays.

Jay County dominated the 11-12- and 13-14-year-old girls events, with six wins in each division.

Caitlin Mark took the top spot in the 13-14-year-old long freestyle, individual medley and breaststroke, and Katy Smeltzer was first in the butterfly, backstroke and short freestyle. In the 11-12-year-old division Sophie Bader took the long freestyle, butterfly and breaststroke, and Anne Vormohr picked up wins in the backstroke, individual medley and short freestyle.

Eliza Bader took the long freestyle, butterfly and breaststroke in the 8-and-younger girls division, and Alex Bader was first in the 9-10-year-old girls long freestyle, backstroke and short freestyle. Neal Fennig picked up victories in the 15-and-older boys backstroke, individual medley and short freestyle.

Eliza Bader, Alex Bader and Neal Fennig also added three wins apiece, and Zane Shreve and Aaron Hudson each added two victories. Single wins came from Kearsten Myers, Cameron Henry and Eme Miller.

Fort wins SLSC

WINCHESTER - The Fort Recovery Eels won the State Line Swim Conference championship Saturday, scoring 2,569 points to finish nearly 600 ahead of St. Henry in the five-team field.

Cori Stone and Perry Hull each set three team records in the win, Carley Stone added two and Kendra Siefring and Ava Bubp added two apiece.

Cori Stone's records came as she won the 13-14-year-old girls 100-yard individual medley and 50 butterfly, and the open 200 freestyle. Hull set records win the 15-and-older 50 butterfly, 100 individual medley and 50 freestyle.

Carley Stone turned in record performances in winning the 9-10-year-old girls 25 butterfly and 25 backstroke. Siefring's record came in the 11-12-year-old girls 50 backstroke, and Ava Bubp set a new mark as she finished first in the 9-10-year-old girls 25 freestyle.

Gavin Thobe added three wins for the Eels, and MacKinely Timmerman had a pair of victories.

McFarland keys win

Alex McFarland led Jay County Monuments to a 10-9 victory Monday over Ponderosa in Portland Junior League Rookie baseball.

Also Monday, All Circuit Electric topped Pak-a-Sak 12-3 in Rookie baseball, and in Pee Wee Reese baseball Portland Elks defeated Local 1620 13-6 and Portland Kiwanis beat Portland Lions 15-8. In Tuesday's action, Portland Moose beat Fisher Packing 17-12 and Graphic Printing topped Winchester 14-9 in Sandy Koufax baseball.

McFarland scored three times to lead the Monuments victory, and Trenton Webster and Parker Grimes added two runs apiece. Austin Nally reached base three times and scored twice for All Circuit.

Isaac Alfont drove in two runs and scored once for Elks, A.J. Bryan had two runs and three RBIs in the Kiwanis win. Brody Speed finished with a home run, three runs and three RBIs to pace Moose, and Adam Alfont and Preston Keen each hit homers to lead Graphic.

Lee leads Lions

DUNKIRK - Zarron Lee blistered the back of the net Tuesday night in the West Jay Community Center Summer Soccer League.

Lee scored six times in leading his Lions to an 11-3 victory over the Tigers.

Daniel Fugiett came up with five goals on the evening to pace the Cheetahs in a 7-4 win over the Jaguars, and Gabriela Bilbrey did all the scoring as the Sting Rays defeated the Sharks 3-0. Kaylee Denney and Chip Wendel each scored three goals in losing efforts.[[In-content Ad]]
