INDIANAPOLIS — When the Patriots open sectional play a week from Tuesday, they will do so against the tournament hosts.
Jay County High School’s boys basketball team lined up with Class 4A Sectional 6 host Huntington North in the tournament draw held Sunday. The teams will play the opening game of the tournament March 1 at 6 p.m.
The last meeting between the Patriots (11-6, 0-0 vs. sectional opponents) and Huntington North (12-8, 1-1) came in the opening round of the 2008 sectional tournament. JCHS won 60-38 before falling 49-39 to Marion in the sectional championship game a day later.
The second opening-round game on March 1 will pit defending champion Fort Wayne North Side (9-8, 0-3) against Marion (7-11, 1-1).
On March 4, the Jay County/Huntington North winner will take on sectional favorite Homestead (13-5, 3-0) at 6 p.m. in the first of two semifinal games. The Marion/North Side winner will battle Fort Wayne South Side (4-15, 2-2) in the second semifinal.
The championship game will be March 5 at 6 p.m.

Hull finishes 32nd
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — Fort Recovery High School sophomore Marshall Hull finished last Saturday in the field of 32 swimmers in the 100-yard butterfly at the Division II boys swimming district meet hosted by Bowling Green State University.
Hull finished the race in 1 minute, 4.14 seconds, 15 hundredths of a second behind 31st-place finisher Zachary Lange of Napoleon. Shawnee’s Erik Risolvato set a district record to win the event in 50.37.

Tribe boys fall
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery freshman boys basketball team concluded its season with a 38-23 loss to Parkway in the Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament.
Kent Retz did almost all of the scoring for the Indians, finishing with 17 points. Josh Pohl and Derek Sutter added three points apiece.

Chiefs lose
East Jay Middle School’s sixth grade boys basketball team fell 35-26 Saturday to R.J. Baskett (Gas City).
Ryan Burkett totaled 18 points to lead the Chiefs. Ivan Hemmelgarn added four points.
In the B team game, Bryson Huntsman scored the only points for EJMS in a 14-2 defeat.[[In-content Ad]]
