Jay tops Scots, perfect in OAC (09/07/04)

Local Roundup

ANDERSON — If only for the girls soccer team, Jay County needs to try to get a couple more schools in the Olympic Athletic Conference.

The Patriots pulled to within one game of .500 with a 3-0 win over the Anderson Highland Scots Saturday. Their two wins have come against OAC rivals, but they are 0-3 outside the conference.

Sara Garringer led the Jay County attack, putting her two cents in on all three goals.

She scored the first, dribbling straight down the middle of the field for a 1-0 lead at the 29:16 mark of the first half. She did the same thing two minutes later to extend the advantage.

Then with 29:02 remaining in the game she passed from the right side across the front of the goal to Saffron Redwine, who scored her first career goal. Redwine, a junior, is in her first year with the team.

The Patriots dominated the contest, taking 14 shots on goal compared to just one by Anderson Highland. Garringer and Jamie Bruggeman took three shots apiece in the contest.

Jay County is in the midst of another week-long break before it will host a girls/boys double-header against South Adams Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
