Jay wins 10th (01/30/08)
JCHS boys swimming
MONROE - Barry Weaver was hoping for a good, competitive season. He got that and more.
Weaver's Jay County High School boys swim team has guaranteed a winning mark for the first time in four seasons, and also can match a school record. The Patriots won their 10th dual meet of the year Tuesday - this marks just the fifth time in 33 years a team has reached double digits - clobbering the host Adams Central Flying Jets 115-61.
The 2002 team, which won the only sectional title in school history, set the single-season record for wins by finishing 12-2. JCHS will close this regular season Feb. 6 with a trip to Muncie to take on Southside and New Castle.
Sam Miller, Tom McCord and Aaron Hudson powered Jay County (10-3) Tuesday, each contributing to four victories.
Hudson led one-two efforts in both of his individual victories, teaming with freshman Neal Fennig in both. He took the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle in 2-minutes, 6.48 seconds, less than four ahead of Fennig, and finished two seconds ahead of Fennig in the 100 freestyle at 56.04.
Miller cruised to a victory by nearly 30 seconds in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:05.26 with teammate Nathan Cain in second. McCord also led a one-two effort in 24.09 to win the 50 freestyle in front of Chance Milligan.
The other win for Miller came with a time of 55.91 in the 100 butterfly, and McCord cruised by nearly 50 seconds in the 500 freestyle at 5:21.92.
Miller, McCord, Milligan and Lance VanSkyock won the opening 200 medley relay in 1:57.56, and Hudson, Miller, Fennig and Derik Lucas placed first with a time of 1:41.97 in the 200 freestyle relay. McCord, Hudson, Fennig and VanSkyock teamed to close the meet with a winning time of 3:51.54 in the 400 freestyle relay.
