Jay wins soggy game over Starfires (05/11/06)
JCHS/SAHS softball
Jay County’s offense found its groove for two innings. That was enough to get by the Starfires.
The Patriot softball team scored all of its runs in the fourth and fifth innings and defeated visiting South Adams 5-3 in the rain Wednesday afternoon.
Trisha Champ paced the Jay County (12-11), which scored twice in the fourth inning and three times in the fifth. She went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, a run and three RBIs.
Shae Keller, Amber Champ, Saffron Redwine and Erica Murray each finished with a hit and a run.
Amber Edmundson got the win as all three runs against her were unearned. She gave up eight walks, but only one hit — a bunt single — in 62/3 innings.
Amber Melick took the loss for the Starfires (7-12), who scored once in the fifth inning before putting up a pair of runs in the seventh. She gave up five runs — three earned — on six hits and a walk while striking out eight.
Jana Beitler singled and drove in a run for South Adams, and Ashton Morgan scored twice. Katie Nichols had a hit, Renee Neuenschwander scored a run and Kayla Coblentz had an RBI.[[In-content Ad]]
