Jay wrestlers go 4-1 (01/19/2009)

FORT WAYNE - With perfect records in five weight classes the Jay County High School wrestling team went 4-1 and finished second Saturday at the Harding 6-way.
Garrett defeated the Patriots 41-29 en route to a 5-0 record and the championships. JCHS topped Bishop Dwenger 40-30, Norwell 63-12, Northrop 48-15 and the host Hawks 70-12.
Casey Kenney pushed his record to 30-1 a perfect day at 119 pounds. Kyler Blowers (HWT) and Matt James (215) each went 5-0 to improve to 22-25 and 20-8 respectively.
Ben Theurer (145) is now 26-4 after winning all four of his matches Saturday, and Cameron Pfeifer (140) also went 4-0 to move to 19-6. Caleb Culy (130) and Seth Drumm (135) each went 4-1, and Matt Seagraves (103), Skylar Finnerty (152) and Sha White (189) were each 3-2.

STRAUGHN and PONETO - South Adams's wrestling team placed third Saturday with a 4-1 record at the Titan Super Duals hosted by Tri. That effort followed up a 40-36 victory Friday night over Southern Wells, which finished a perfect 7-0 run through the Allen County Athletic Conference for the Starfires.
Jackson Werst (215) led SAHS in Saturday's action with a perfect 5-0 record, including four pins. Josh Ehr (125), Cajon Dailey (119), T.J. Burnfield (140), Jim West (HWT) and Gabe Sprunger (112) totaled three pins apiece.
Six of the Starfires' seven wins Friday night at Southern Wells came by pin. West finished off his match in just 46 seconds, and Todd Batt, Gabe Sprunger and Chase Sprunger (152) each added first-period pins.
Other pins came from Dailey and Nick Taylor (160), and Burnfield won by a major decision.
Chiefs finish 2-1
DECATUR - The East Jay Middle School wrestling team defeated the host Braves 66-28 and Muncie Wilson 57-39 Saturday at the Bellmont Quad. The Chiefs' only loss of the day came by a 77-30 score to Blackhawk Christian.
Brandon Poore (115) led East Jay with a 3-0 record, with every victory come by pin. Conner Ray (75) and Cody Bellis (160) each went 3-0 with two pins.
Adding 2-1 records on the day were Hunter Gillette (110), Zach Metcalf (135), Pierce Clott (145), Kyle Garringer (175) and Nick Spahr (200). Ceaser Castor (140) and Lucas Boyer (HWT) each went 1-0.
