JC academic team gets win (04/23/07)
The Jay County High School Academic Team competed in the Indiana Academic Competitions area meet at Richmond High School Tuesday where the social studies team captured a first place win.
Other teams placing were English team, third; science team, fourth; fine arts, second; math, second; and interdisciplinary, second.
Students competing were Brittany Byrum, Stephanie Byrum, Caitlin Dunn, Lee Haggenjos, Jordan Inman, Ryan Mescher, Shelby Claycomb, Jacob Schmidt, Jared Shrack, Ashley Theurer, Matt Theurer, Scott Walker, and Tyler Wolford. Coaches are Gary Tarr, English; Dan Orr, science; Liz Lawson, fine arts; Crystal Laux, math; and Dolphus Stephens, social studies.
Based on results from throughout the state, finalists were announced Wednesday in each discipline. Teams deemed state finalists will compete May 5 at the Loeb Playhouse on the campus of Purdue University in Lafayette. Finalists are the top six teams in their division across the state, and are named by individual subjects.
