Revenge is said to be a dish best served cold. Jay County dished out its vengeance in scorching conditions.
With temperatures soaring into triple digits Thursday, the Jay County Summer Swim Team avenged its only loss of the season by knocking off visiting South Adams 684-520 at Portland Pool.
Anne Vormohr broke records in a pair of events for Jay County, which dropped its season opener 646-588 to South Adams but has won seven in a row since. She snapped her own team record and her sister and coach Cori’s pool mark with a time of 28.11 seconds in the 50-meter freestyle.
Vormohr also surpassed her own team and pool records in the 50 backstroke in 30.97, and finished first in the individual medley.
Sisters Sophie and Alex Bader, Vormohr’s cousins, had record-breaking evenings as well.
Sophie Bader broke Vormohr’s team and pool records in the 13-14-year-old 100 freestyle with a time of 1 minute, 2.06 seconds, and also won the butterfly and breaststroke. Alex Bader took down Sophie’s team and pool marks in the 11-12-year-old girls 50 butterfly in 31.72 while adding victories in the breaststroke and individual medley.
Mara Bader took the top spot in the 8-and-younger girls long freestyle, butterfly and individual medley, and Eliza Bader won the 9-10-year-old girls butterfly, individual medley and short freestyle.
Jay County also had a trio of triple winners in the 15-and-older division, with Eme Miller taking the top spot in the long freestyle, backstroke and individual medley. Alex Sutton won the boys long freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke, and Josh Lykins earned victories in the butterfly, individual medley and short freestyle.
Lilly Clemmons, Damian Hicks, Alex LeMaster and Mary Hudson each won a pair of events for Jay County. Ashlyn Dow, Katy Smeltzer, Tayler Smeltzer, Konner Sommers and Sok Vormohr added one victory apiece.[[In-content Ad]]
