JC boys pound another sectional opponent (09/08/06)
JCHS boys soccer
HARTFORD CITY - The message is being sent loud and clear.
With an experienced team and new sectional alignment, Jay County's boys soccer team is hoping to win its first sectional this season. So far, so good.
The Patriots beat their second sectional opponent in as many nights Thursday, trampling the Blackford Bruins 7-2 behind outstanding efforts from the seniors.
Jay County defeated another sectional foe, Union City, 6-1 Wednesday, and will go for the trifecta Saturday when it visits South Adams at noon.
The scoring was locked up by seniors Thursday as Mason Shreve posted his second hat trick in five games and Scott "Scooter" Bruggeman and Lucas Karpe each added two goals.
Luke McClung assisted on four of the scores, and Karpe notched a pair of assists.
The Patriots never trailed, getting goals from Bruggeman and Shreve, both on McClung assists, in the first five minutes. Blackford pulled to within 2-1, but another Bruggeman score from a McClung assist gave JCHS a two-goal halftime lead.
Karpe scored unassisted just minutes after the intermission, then assisted on Shreve's second goal for a 5-1 advantage. The Bruins got their second goal midway through the second half, only to have Shreve finish his hat trick on a Karpe assist less than four minutes later.
The foreign exchange student from Brazil tacked on another goal two minutes later with help from McClung's fourth assist.
Derek Mills finished with three saves.[[In-content Ad]]
