JC boys tie, girls fall to Bulldogs (09/17/07)
JCHS soccer
Jay County High School's boys soccer team had to settle for its third tie of the season Saturday, finishing in a 1-1 deadlock with the visiting Centerville Bulldogs. In the first half of the double-header, the Patriot girls were not so lucky as they lost 2-1.
The Patriot boys, now 5-3-3, had the lead thanks to a Jordan Moser goal late in the first half. However, Centerville got the tying tally with about 13 minutes to go in the game.
Jay County finished with six shots on goal, half of which came from Brad Horn, compared to four for the Bulldogs. Kevin Dirksen had a pair of saves.
JCHS has also tied New Castle and Blackford this season.
For the second time in as many games, the Patriots girls saw a lead disappear and the winning goal scored against them in the final two minutes.
After a scoreless first half with Centerville (7-1-1), Jay County took the lead 14 minutes into the second when Kaelee Keller worked the middle of the field on the way to assisting on a goal from Brianne Wellman. The Bulldogs pulled even eight minutes later, and with just 1:04 on the clock Lindsey Ivey passed from the left side to the right post where Michelle Anderson knocked in the winning goal.
Jay County also had a 2-0 lead against Bellmont Wednesday, only to have the Squaws rally and score the winning goal with just 1:23 remaining.
After shooting seven times in the first half, the Patriots (3-5) had just one attempt in the second compared to 11 for Centerville. Tequila Guntle led JCHS with four shots, and Abby Loy finished with 13 saves.[[In-content Ad]]
