Basketball roundup
Jay County dominated the first half Tuesday, crushing the Wapahani Raiders in freshman boys basketball action 44-30.
The Patriots allowed just two first-quarter points and one in the second. They had a 18-point lead at the half and cruised to the victory, improving to 10-2 on the season.
Cole Ingram and Dexter Shreve each reached double figures with 15 and 14 points respectively. Phil Powell added nine points.
Fort girls crush ’Skins
ST. HENRY, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s girls basketball teams each improved to 6-3 with victories over the St. Henry Redskins Tuesday.
The eighth grade team knocked off St. Henry 34-25, and the seventh graders scored a 29-9 win.
Chelsey Leuthold and Josie Guggenbiller paced the eighth grade Indians with 10 and 12 points respectively. Nicole Pottkotter added eight points, and Emily May, Kelsey Brockman, Jessica Taylor and Lauren Staugler each grabbed three rebounds.
The seventh graders got a balanced scoring effort with Olivia Thin notching a team-high five points. Holly Brunswick, Kendra Brunswick, Nichole Kaiser, Holly Thien and Michelle Brockman added four points apiece.
Eagles soar past EJ
The Delta Eagles proved too much for the East Jay boys basketball teams Tuesday. The Chief eighth graders lost to Delta 53-40, and the seventh grade team suffered a 30-23 defeat.
Eric Homan carried the East Jay eighth graders (7-5) with 18 points. Tyler Freyburgher had 12 points, and Austin Emerick scored seven.
The seventh grade team slipped to 5-7 with Drew Houck scoring a team-high eight points. Aaron Emerick added seven points.
Chiefs crush Wilson
MUNCIE — The East Jay sixth grade girls basketball team gave up some points, but not many.
After shutting out Union City Westside in their opening game last week, the Chiefs scored a 32-5 victory over Muncie Wilson Tuesday to improve to 2-0.
Mariah Hornaday paced East Jay with 10 points and four rebounds. LeAnn Horn had five points and three assists, and Danielle Wellman also scored five points.
Maria Murphy and Xaiven Overton each scored four points as the East Jay B Team defeated Wilson 15-8.[[In-content Ad]]
