Jay County High School's freshman boys basketball team dominated the second and third quarters Tuesday in a 34-18 victory over the visiting Wapahani Raiders.

Drew Houck scored 12 points to lead the Patriots, who were up just 6-5 after the first quarter. They outscored Wapahani 22-8 over the next two quarters to pull away.

Garrett Krieg hit a pair of second-quarter 3-pointers and joined Houck in double figures with 10 points. Zach Cash added eight points.

Zach Gadbury paced the Raiders with eight points, and Luke Cooper scored five.

Tribe bounces back

FORT RECOVERY - The Fort Recovery Middle School girls basketball teams faced another big challenge Tuesday, but this time came out on top.

After both teams suffered their first losses of the year Monday to East Jay, the seventh graders knocked off Marion Local 21-19 and the eighth grade team beat the Flyers 25-22.

Janelle Schwieterman and Kelsey Fiely each scored six points for the seventh grade squad, which trailed by a point heading into the final quarter. Sam Tobe scored four points, and Chelsea grabbed three rebounds.

The eighth grade game was tied after the second and third quarters. Kelly Nietfeld led the victory with 12 points and six rebounds, Kylie Kahlig scored four points and Michelle Evers had six rebounds.

Both teams are 10-1 this season.

EJMS 7th stays perfect

East Jay Middle School's seventh grade boys basketball team cruised to its 13th consecutive win Tuesday, thumping the Delta Eagles 49-17. The eighth grade team also won, 46-35.

Brock McFarland and Cade Price each scored 14 points for the seventh grade Chiefs (13-0), who had a 19-point lead at the half and allowed just one point in the third quarter. Skyler Prescott added six points.

East Jay's eighth graders (10-3) trailed by five at the half, but held Delta to two third-quarter points and score 22 in the fourth for the double-digit win. Jordan McBride led the victory with 16 points, and Dillon Ainsworth scored 14.

Prince tops Stars

GENEVA - The South Adams seventh grade boys basketball team lost 45-16 Tuesday to Prince Chapman.

Simon Sprunger scored eight points against the Fort Wayne foe. Blake Fox added five points, and Chase Mosser scored three.

Raiders defeat WJ

PONETO - The Southern Wells Raiders were too much for the West Jay eighth grade girls basketball team Tuesday, defeating the Eagles 37-17.

Marissa Murrell scored eight points for WJMS (2-8), which trailed by just two after the first quarter only to fall behind by double digits at halftime.

Megan Sawyer added three points.

Chiefs blast Wilson

MUNCIE - East Jay Middle School's sixth grade girls basketball team used 21 players Tuesday night in running its record to 3-0 with a 38-12 victory over Muncie Wilson.

Alex Loy led all scorers with eight points, and Katie Aker, Sara Bollenbacher and Cheyanne Dull each added six.

Dull finished with five rebounds, and Mikayla Gross had two assists.[[In-content Ad]]
