JC girls go undefeated

The Jay County middle school girls swim team closed out its perfect season with a 214-82 victory Monday over Blackford. The boys team also finished with a win, 145-79.
Sophie Bader broke her own record in the 400-yard freestyle by nearly six seconds to lead the girls teams. Also picking up individual wins were Darcy Parker, Katy Smeltzer, Sydney Mathias, Ashley Mark, Anne Vormohr, Madi Long and Taylor Campbell.
The boys team won 11 of 12 events with Tayler Garringer taking the diving competition. James Keen, Sok Vormohr and Caven Schricker each picked up a pair of victories, and Gabe Bullard and Tyler Wendel added one win apiece.

Murphy wins shot
ANDERSON — Maria Murphy had a career day to pick up a victory as the Jay County High School track teams hosted the Patriot Indoor Invitational at Anderson University.
Murphy dominated the shot put competition, winning with a toss of 39 feet, 4 ¾ inches. Her career-best effort for the JCHS team during the outdoor season came last season at the Ben Davis regional at 35 feet, 5 ½ inches.

The distance medley relay team of Leah Wellman, Katie Simmons, Kassi Hemmelgarn and Abbi Dunlavy were runners-up in 13 minutes, 41 seconds. Jordan McMillan added a third-place finish in the 55-meter dash in 7.65 seconds, and was also fifth in the high jump at 4 feet, 10 inches.
Cara Garringer followed Murphy in fourth place in the shot put at 33 feet, 11 inches, and Cierra Barcus turned in a jump of 15 feet, 2 inches for fifth in the long jump.
The top athlete for the Jay County boys team was Zach Cash, who placed seventh in the 55 hurdles in 8.61.

Winner leads club
INDIANAPOLIS — Mason Winner led a group of four athletes from the Patriot Wrestling Club who competed Saturday at the Indiana State Wrestling Association Tournament at Ben Davis High School.
Winner went 5-2 on the day and finished seventh in the 80-pound Intermediate division. He picked up three pins, and his other two victories came by major decision.
Tony Wood and Mallory Winner also picked up one victory apiece on the day. Kaimen Sanders was 0-2.[[In-content Ad]]
