JC girls still perfect (03/01/05)

PORTLAND — The Jay County middle school girls swim team kept its streak going Monday with a 99-86 victory over Muncie Northside. It is now 5-0 on the year.

The boys team took a 109-69 defeat.

Cori Vormohr was the lone double winner for the team. She took first in the 100-yard freestyle in 57.17 seconds and also won the 100 breaststroke in 1-minute, 15.05 seconds.

Vormohr teamed with Michelle Landfair, Briann Saxman and Ivy Simons for the 200 freestyle relay victory in 1:58.66.

Landfair led a sweep of the 100 individual medley, finishing in front of teammates Lynne Inman and Lauren Murrell in 1:17.84. Saxman picked up the victory for the girls team, winning the 400 freestyle in 5:30.11.

The boys team managed just a couple of wins, with Thomas Bowen taking first in the 400 freestyle in 5:59. Steven Kelly won the diving competition.

WJ pins Daleville

DUNKIRK — West Jay Middle School’s wrestling team improved to 9-2 Monday with a 48-33 victory over Daleville.

Amber McCowan took quick-pin honors for the Eagles, winning the 90-pound match in 28 seconds. Also scoring pins for West Jay were Seth Drumm (95), Drake Meska (100), Jerid Conatser (115), Keri VanSkyock (135), Travis Garringer (175) and Andrew Lancaster (HVY).
