Local roundup

YORKTOWN - The Jay County High School boys golf team finished 15th Saturday in a 20-team field that included five of the top 20 in the state.

The Patriots totaled a 355 at the Muncie Central Invitational at The Players Club, six strokes behind Richmond and three ahead of the host Bearcats. No. 1 Avon and unranked Norwell each shot 304, with Avon taking the top spot thanks to the fifth-player tiebreaker.

Other state-ranked teams involved were No. 5 Carmel (sixth - 320), No. 12 Bedford North Lawrence (seventh - 324), No. 14 Noblesville (eighth - 326) and No. 16 Center Grove (fourth - 318).

Adam Gray led JCHS, turning in the team's lone birdie of the day on the 115-yard, par-3 seventh hole. He had four pars on the front nine and added pars on four of the final five holes to shoot 80 and finish 29th.

Zach Treash (71) of Plainfield earned match medalist honors, winning a playoff over Norwell's Drew Imel.

Jonathan Fennig followed Gray, racking up six of his eight bars on the back nine for an 86. Justen Moser shot 91, Chase Wellman completed the team score with a 98 and Adam Horn finished at 100.

SA baseball out

WOODBURN - South Adams High School's baseball team would have much rather had its last two games reversed.

The Starfires clobbered Wabash 16-3 in its regular-season finale Saturday, but then dropped out of the state tournament in a 10-0, opening-round loss Monday to Bishop Luers.

Kyle DeArmond led the win over Wabash with two doubles, three runs and two RBIs. Daniel Bollenbacher added two hits, two RBIs and a run.

Jacob Sonnentag drove in three runs, Caleb Armenta scored three times and Heath Moser and Ethan Sharp each had two hits.

No statistics were available from the sectional defeat. South Adams (14-11) had lost just 7-6 to Bishop Luers in 10 innings during the regular season.
