JC grads intern at Statehouse (01/16/08)

Taking Note

Two graduates of Jay County High School are interning for the Indiana State Senate Republican Caucus.

Jenae Horn is a junior at Purdue University where she is studying agricultural economics.

Horn will spend a semester as an intern working for Sen. Beverly Gard R-Greenfield, and Sen John Waterman-R-Shelburne.

She is the daughter of Doug and Carla Horn, Bryant.

Joshua Myers is a senior at Purdue University where he is studying political science.

He will spend a semester working for Sen. Allen Paul R-Richmond, and Sen. Johnny Nugent R-Lawrenceburg.

Myers is the son of Dave and Robin Myers, Bryant.

Band to perform

The South Adams High School band will perform at the 18th annual Purdue Jazz Festival in West Lafayette on Saturday.

There will be 85 musical groups from 47 high schools in Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky performing.

Art show

The Art Association of Randolph County is accepting entries by local artists through Feb. 15 for the 54th annual art show at the Depot in Union City.

The subjects being accepted are Indiana-Ohio landscapes, portraiture, still life, realism and 3-D.

Entry forms are available at the Depot, by calling (765) 964-7227 or by visiting www.artsdepot.org. Entry fee is $4 for members of AARC and $10 for non-members and there is a maximum of three entries per person.

The show will begin March 13 with an opening reception at 7 p.m. and continue through April 10.

Dean's list

Several Jay County students made the dean's list at Wabash College in Crawsfordsville.

Joshua Eal, a senior, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Eal, Portland.

David Johnston, a senior, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Johnston, Portland.

Alex Loucks, a senior, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ramon Loucks, Portland.

Austin Flynn, a freshman, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Flynn, Redkey.

Cody Grady, a sophomore, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Grady, Redkey.

Contest winner

Maria Sha Murphy was chosen as the winner of the Mississinewa Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution American History Contest for 2007-08 for her essay "I spy-Espionage During the American Revolution."

Murphy is an eight grade student of Ms. Deborah Kilander at East Jay Middle School and the daughter of Mitchell and Anna Murphy, Bryant.

Birthday

Friends and family of Daisy Romine are invited to celebrate her 100th birthday on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Miller's Merry Manor in Dunkirk.[[In-content Ad]]
