JC robotics team advances
Taking Note
Jay County Robotics had six teams compete at Warren Central on Saturday with one team qualifying for the VEX Worlds in Anaheim, Calif. to be held in April. There were 61 teams competing from Indiana, Ohio and Michigan.
Jay County team 1193B, consisting of Austin Wendel, Darren DeRome, Ethan Bost, Zec Landers and Emily Morris, finished first in programming, first in driving skills, third in the tournament and was part of the second place alliance contest.
Team 1193A, consisting of Caleb Hummel, Matt Dann, Tyler Wendel, Ian Bentz and Cydney Huey, took third place.
Team 1193E, consisting of Nathan Hicks and Gary Corle, finished in 29th place.
Service interrupted
Jay County Public Library is upgrading its Evergreen Indiana software. Items, except ebooks, may be checked out from the library, but on Friday and Saturday the online catalog will be not be available for use. Other Evergreen services will not be available online.
FFA scholarships
AGCO, Your Agriculture Company, is providing several $1,000 scholarships for FFA members nationwide. More information can be found at www.FFA.org. Application deadline is Feb. 15, 2012.
Places second
The East Jay Middle School Spell Bowl team placed second, out of 10 schools, in class 2 at Union County Middle School. Team members are Chandler Jacks, Bowen Runyon, Matt Blackford, Lillian McClung, Adrianne Smith, Dakota Brunswick, Julie Schubert, Jessie Duncan and Alison Betts. The team coach is Deborah Kilander and team proctor is Connie Williams.
Christmas train
The train will leave Connersville on Saturday at 4 p.m. to travel to Metamora for the Annual Christmas Walk.
