It was their first dual meet of the season. But it wasn't much of a battle.
Jay County High School's girls swim team clobbered the short-handed Muncie Southside Rebels Tuesday by a 218-57.
The Patriots had more points through the first four events than the Southside squad would earn all night, and kept pulling away as they won every event and swept first, second and third in three contested events.
Aly Miller, Michelle Landfair and Cori Vormohr each rolled to a pair of victories to lead JCHS.
The first victory of Miller's career came in the 50 freestyle, where she beat Southside's Jamie Smith by 1.63 seconds in a time of 28.38. The freshman also took first place in the backstroke, pulling away in the second half of the race to finish in 1:14.08 with junior teammate Ivy Simons (1:20.38) second.
Vormohr led two sweeps, including a win by 24 seconds in the 200-yard individual medley. She finished in 2:24.48 seconds with Brian Saxman second (2:48.54) and Maddie Fennig third (3:02.63).
The same trio swept the 100 butterfly as Vormohr took first in 1:06.96 followed by Saxman (1:18.93) and Fennig (1:28.29).
The first of Landfair's two victories, in the 200 freestyle, also came with a sweep. The sophomore first in 2:24.28, classmate Caitlin Ruchgy was second in 2:37.22 and junior Rachel Osterholt placed third in 2:43.62.
Landfair and Simons went one-two in the 100 freestyle in 1:03.49 and 1:10.56 respectively.
Ruchgy also led a one-two effort, winning the 500 freestyle in 6:57.47 as Osterholt followed in 7:31.64. Kelci Reed picked up the other JCHS individual victory with her time of 1:29.89 in the 100 breaststroke.
Jay County also cruised in both contested relays.
Vormohr, Landfair, Saxman and Miller won the 200 relay in 1:57.24, with Vormohr finishing it off about 30 yards ahead of the rest of the field. Ruchgy, Reed, Simons and Fennig were first in the 200 medley relay by more than seven seconds in 2:23.07.
The Patriots took all the points without opposition in both diving and the 400 freestyle relay.
April Acker led Jay County's three divers with 151.8 points. Nadlie Runyon was second at 137.85, and Tricia Skiver finished third with 128.5.
The winning 200 relay team also took the uncontested final relay in 4:24.93.
