Local Roundup

MUNCIE — Jay County boys swim team picked up its fourth win of the season in its final meet Wednesday. It just missed a chance at a fifth.

The Patriots thumped the Muncie Southside Rebels 68-27 in the three-way meet, but lost 51-50 to the New Castle Trojans.

Jay County (4-8) won all three relays at the meet, but got just three individual wins and was hurt by its lack of divers. New Castle outscored it 7-0 in diving in the one-point victory.

Senior Matthew Peterson paced the Patriots in his final career dual meet, earning two of their individual wins while also contributing to two of the relays.

Peterson owned the sprints, winning the 50-yard freestyle by nearly three seconds in 25.42 seconds. He cruised in the 100-yard freestyle in 56.41.

Fellow senior Derick Lee grabbed the only other individual win, taking the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.34.

The pair joined Joseph Vormohr and Josh Hawn for first place in the 200-yard freestyle and teamed with Tom McCord and Matt Eldridge for first in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

McCord, Vormohr, Eldridge and Hawn were first in the 200-yard medley relay.

Chiefs thump HC
