HARTFORD CITY - The Patriots walked away with six wins Friday night, including two from junior Dexter Shreve, as both teams fared well at the Blackford Invitational.
Erika Hunt, Amanda Johnson and Lindsey Current led the Jay County High School girls track team to a runner-up finish with 111 points. It marked their first loss of the season as they placed behind New Haven (119) and fought off Park Tudor (105) for second place.
Shreve and Brandon Reynard paced the boys, who were third with 69 points. Anderson Highland turned in an impressive win with 140 points, and Muncie Southside was second at 109.
The double-win from Shreve came in the 400-meter dash and the high jump, in which he overcame the field and a driving wind that made the event especially difficult. He cleared the bar at 6 feet even, and his winning time in the 400 was 52.99 seconds.
The junior was also second in the long jump.
Reynard took the top spot in the 300 hurdles, finishing in 40.64 seconds. He was third in the 110 hurdles.
Hunt took the 100 hurdle event in the girls competition, finishing first in 15.86 in the 100.
She was third in the 300 hurdles at 53.19.
Johnson won the 800 run by just under a second in 2:32.69, and Current was the only high jumper to clear the bar at 4 feet, 10 inches.
Kelsey Wood and Aly Miller each added runner-up efforts. Wood was second in the long jump at 14 feet, 10 inches, and Miller took second in the 3,200 run at 12:59.24. Wood was also third in the high jump.
Third-place efforts came from Cara Garringer, Kylie Wellman and Leah Wellman for the girls and Sean Hatzell for the boys. The Patriot girls also finished as the runners-up in the 4x100, and the boys were second in the 4x400 relay.[[In-content Ad]]
