MUNCIE — The Patriots went into Saturday at .500 and walked off the courts with an even record as well.
Playing its two former Olympic Athletic Conference rivals, the Jay County High School boys tennis team defeated the Muncie Southside Rebels 5-0 and lost to the Connersville Spartans 3-2.
Matt Shrack and Tony Schwieterman led the Patriots (4-4) with a pair of victories at No. 2 doubles. They dominated Southside’s Tanner Morse and Tyler York 6-0, 6-1 and knocked off Zach Lucas and Brenner Boggs of the Spartans 6-4, 6-1.
Landry Inman, who won by forfeit against the Rebels, needed a super tiebreaker to top Connersville’s Jacob Patterson 7-5, 5-7 (10-8).
Against Southside, Derek Smith topped Joey Locke 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 at No. 1 singles and Brad Leuthold defeated Devin May 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Chance Fuller and Morton Garringer won the No. 1 doubles match 6-2, 6-2 over Elisha North and Jasper Jamison.

FR gridders fall
VERSAILLES, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s junior varsity football team struggled Saturday in a 55-6 loss to the Versailles Tigers.
The Indians scored their only touchdown in the fourth quarter when Mitch Stammen connected with Dillon Whitacre on a 60-yard pass. They are 0-3 on the season.

Key leads Hawks
Jordan Key was one of several players to score a pair of touchdowns Saturday in Jay County Pee Wee Football action.
Key’s two TDs combined with one from Austin Coor to lead the Hawks to an 18-14 victory over the Bengals. Gabe Link had two scores in the Vikings’ 14-7 win over the Chiefs, and Noah Hummel got in the end zone twice in the Colts’ 27-0 victory over the Bears.
Cody Knisely passed to Storm McLaughlin for the lone TD in the Dolphins’ 6-0 win over the Steelers, and five different players — Wyatt Geesaman, Gabriel Faulkner, Garrett Rogers, Cole Stigleman and Gavin Randall — scored in the Giants’ 36-0 triumph over the Falcons.[[In-content Ad]]
