JC volleyball finishes at 1-3

NOBLESVILLE — The Patriots got off to a good start, but couldn’t sustain the effort.
Jay County High School’s volleyball team opened Saturday’s Noblesville Invitational with a three-game win over Southmont, but finished the day at 1-3. It lost 25-11, 25-19 to the host Millers, 25-20, 22-25, 15-9 to Union County and 25-23, 26-24 to Plainfield.
Hannah Ainsworth, the Patriots’ lone senior, led the victory over Southmont with six assists, six digs, six service points and a kill. Freshman Ava Kunkler had eight digs and four kills, and her classmate Kylie Osborne finished with six service points and five kills. Malarie Houck had 12 service points, and Ashley Motter added six.
Houck also totaled 12 digs, eight service points, including two aces, and six kills for JCHS (4-12) against Union County. Bre McIntire had 14 digs and seven kills in the loss to Plainfield, and Ainsworth finished with 10 digs and seven assists against Noblesville.
EJMS 8th wins
The East Jay Middle School eighth grade volleyball team went 3-0 Saturday to win the West Jay Invitational at Jay County High School. The seventh grade Chiefs were 0-3.
Abby Barcus powered the EJMS eighth graders (4-0) to their championship with 16 service points on 22-of-22 serving, including seven aces, nine kills and three blocks. Ten of those service points came in the win over South Adams.
Lizzy Schoenlein had 34 assists, 23 service points and nine aces. Britlyn Dues finished with 16 kills and four digs, Audrey Shreve had 11 kills and Katie Lyons totaled eight digs.

Katie Beougher had four service points, including two aces, and two kills in the seventh-grade team’s 25-15, 25-22 loss to South Adams. Alayna Aparicio finished with five service points and three kills in a three-game loss to Wes-Del.

Castillo leads Chiefs
Trey Castillo was the only player to score multiple touchdowns in Saturday’s Jay County Pee Wee Football action.
Castillo finished with a pair of TDs as his Chiefs rolled to a 36-8 victory over the Bears. Caleb Webster, Parker Grimes and Justin Newman added one touchdown apiece.
Daniel Ostrowski had the lone TD for the Bears.
Zack Vaughn, Wyatt Geesaman and Gabe Faulker all had TDs in the Giants’ 20-0 victory over the Bengals, and Logan Brown and Daevis Esparza scored in the Colts’ 12-0 shutout of the Dolphins.
Josh Crouch had the only touchdown in the Steelers’ 7-0 victory over Monroe Central.
