Last week vs. Heritage Christian: Derrick Hill carried the Scots to a 49-41 victory over the Class 2A No. 1 Heritage Christian Eagles with 294 yards of total offense. He scored on runs of 15, 66 and 80 yards and a 5-yard reception. Heritage Christian quarterback Jackson Kirtley had 442 yards and five touchdowns on 19-of-33 passing.

Statistical notes: Three running backs - Hill, Jordan Segner and Lawrence Cotton - went over the 100-yard mark against Heritage Christian. In the season opener, Hill scored all three times he touched the football. Chandler Sidwell had 98 rushing yards in the Scots' week-two win over New Castle.

Last week at Franklin County: Jay County bounced back from a seven-point halftime deficit for a 24-22 victory over the Wildcats. The winning margin came on a safety when an errant snap flew over the head of Franklin County punter Forrest Kunkel and out of the back of the end zone. Michael Daniels led the Patriots' comeback with 145 yards on 17 carries.

Season leaders: Passing - Zach Cash - 13-of-37 for 129 yards and one TD. Rushing - Michael Daniels - 50 carries for 331 yards and five TDs. Receiving - Ben Vance - seven receptions for 36 yards and one TD. Defense - Dillon Easton - 25 tackles and one sack.

Last meeting: Highland scored three touchdowns in the first six minutes of the second half and pulled away for a 49-24 victory over the Patriots. Billy Wellman led JCHS, which trailed just 21-18 at halftime, with 331 passing yards and four TDs. Dexter Shreve caught six passes for 103 yards and two TDs. Nathan Walter and Jordan Segner combined to shred the Patriot defense for 361 rushing yards.

Game notes: The Scots are averaging 50.7 points through the first three games of the season ... Jay County is looking for its first 3-1 start since 1988 ... Highland finished 13th this week in the Class 4A voting by The Associated Press.[[In-content Ad]]
