Last week at Homestead: The Spartans, who were 13th in the Class 5A poll voting by The Associated Press this week, scored 28 points in the second quarter on the way to a 49-0 victory over New Haven. Quarterback Zach Terrell led Homestead, scoring the first two touchdowns on runs of 3 and 32 yards and then tossing four TD passes as he finished 14-of-21 through the air for 247 yards and had 10 rushing attempts for 77 yards. Te’Vaughn Hurse ran for 88 yards to lead the Bulldogs.
Season leaders: Passing — Lucas Salerno - 79-of-106 for 817 yards and nine touchdowns. Rushing — Te’Vaughn Hurse - 234 carries for 1,869 yards and 17 TDs. Receiving — Brandon Pease - 19 receptions for 218 yards and four TDs, Latwon Ford - 13 receptions for 222 yards and two TDs.

Jay County Patriots
Portland, 2-7

Last week at Greenville: Jay County fell behind 20-0 in the opening quarter in a 44-0 loss to the Green Wave. Tyler Zimmerman ran nine times for 103 yards and two touchdowns to lead Greenville. Cade Price had 42 yards rushing for the Patriots, who were shutout for the third straight game.
Season leaders: Passing — Brock McFarland - 18-of-57 for 227 yards and two TDs. Rushing — Cade Price - 111 carries for 548 yards and three TDs, Blake Crouch - 78 carries for 375 yards and five TDs. Receiving — Price - seven receptions for 50 yards and one TD.

Last meeting: In the opening-round of the 2009 sectional tournament the Patriots led 3-0 for much of the first half before Frank Lloyd scored on a 47-yard reverse for New Haven. A couple of interceptions helped the Bulldogs score 21 points in the final four minutes of the first half on the way to handing Jay County a 28-10 defeat. The Patriots out-gained New Haven 344-172, but turned the ball over four times on interceptions. Michael Daniels had 156 yards on 32 carries for JCHS while Lloyd had 83 yards on 29 attempts for the Bulldogs.

Game notes: Jay County has been shut out in three straight games with their last points coming Sept. 25 in a win over Connersville ... New Haven six of its first seven games before falling 38-24 to East Noble and 49-0 to Homestead ... The Patriots are 2-1 all-time against New Haven, having won regular season games in 1976 and ’77 before falling in the opening round of the sectional last year ...  TeVaughn Hurse of the Bulldogs ranks second in the state in rushing with 1,869 yards, trailing only Iyan Bass (1,936) of Jennings County.[[In-content Ad]]
