JCC hosting senior day (05/29/07)

Taking Note

The Jay Community Center in Portland will host Senior Health and Appreciation Day on Wednesday for seniors 55 and older.

A one-mile walk, led by Stephanie Arnold, will begin at JCC at 9 a.m.; followed by a tour of the fitness center at 9:30 a.m.

All seniors are invited to participate in the Senior Sneakers Fitness Class at 10 a.m.

A Senior Health Issues presentation and Ask the Trainer session with Shaun Roberts will be held from 11 t o 11:30 a.m.

A snack will be provided and t-shirts will be given to the first 20 seniors who attend the presentation.

Achievement award

Dustin Q. Snyder, a senior at Jay County High School, has been named a United States National Award Winner in agriculture by the United States Achievement Academy. His name will appear in their Official Yearbook.

Snyder was nominated by teacher Melissa Muhlenkamp.

He is the son of Jeff and Nancy Snyder; the grandson of Duane and Frances Weesner, Portland, and the great-grandson of Helen Mills, all of Portland.

Graduates

Marjorie Kaup Haines, a 1972 graduate of Fort Recovery High School, recently graduated with a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Nashville School of Law.

While earning her degree, she co-founded the Nashville School of Law Legal Society and served as president from 2006-07. She was also the school liaison for the Tennessee Bar Association for the past three years.

Haines is the daughter of Alvin Kaup, Fort Recovery. She lives in Franklin, Tenn. with her husband David and three daughters.

Attends assembly

Glen Priest and Bob Freemyer, of the Jay County Retired Teachers Association, recently attended the 42nd Annual Representative Assembly meeting in Indianapolis. The meeting was attended by 300 delegates and guests from local retired teachers associations throughout the state.[[In-content Ad]]
