Local roundup

STRAUGHN - Erika Hunt had a big night for the Jay County gymnastics team, but it was not quite enough to push the team ahead of the Lincoln Golden Eagles.

Hunt had one victory and a pair of runner-up efforts as the Patriots scored 94.6 points at Monday's four-way meet hosted by Tri. Lincoln used big leads on the floor exercise and uneven bars to win with 95.8 points, the host Titans were third with 80.1 and Blue River scored 52.85.

The Patriots, missing senior Lacey Thornburg who suffered an ankle injury Thursday, got a pair of wins from Hunt and Kristin Brown. They shared the top score of the evening with Hunt posting an 8.6 to win the vault and Brown an 8.6 for her balance beam victory.

Hunt was right behind Brown on the beam with a second-place 8.55, and was also second as she scored a 7.75 on the bars.

Freshman Nadlie Runyon was the only other Jay County competitor to place in the top four. She was second on the floor (8.05), third on the vault (8.3) and fourth on the beam (8.3) for a runner-up all-around total of 31.5.
