JCHS blasts Broncos

A night after suffering a shutout loss, the Patriots rediscovered their offense.
Jay County High School’s softball team scored 12 times in the first two innings Friday on the way to a 14-1, five-inning blowout of the visiting Daleville Broncos.
Larissa Boles went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run for the Patriots (7-6), who blew the game open with an eight-run second inning. Gabby Hart was 2-for-3 with a run and four RBIs.
Katlin Petro had a single, two RBIs and two runs. Courtney Finnerty and Catherine Dunn each finished with two hits and two RBIs, and Chelsea Tighe also scored twice.
Rachelle Jackson improved to 3-2 on the year as she struck out five batters in the win. She allowed just one run on five hits and three walks.

Mitchel second
WAPAKONETA, Ohio — Hannah Mitchel turned in a runner-up finish at Friday’s Redskin Relays hosted by Wapakoneta as the South Adams girls track team finished ninth out of 10 teams.
The Starfire girls scored 16 points, finishing six ahead of 10th-place Anna. The SAHS boys team was last in the 10-team field.
Ottawa-Glandorf finished first in both the boys and girls competitions.
Mitchel narrowly missed victory in the shot put, finishing as the runner-up by less than three inches at 36 feet, 2 inches. She was also tied for eighth in the shot put.
Hannah’s twin sister, Leah, was third with a toss of 103 feet, 11 inches in the discus. She added a sixth-place finish in the shot put.
Brody Shane, Andrew Steffen, Joel Hawbaker and Simons Sprunger teamed to take third place in the boys 4x800-meter relay in 8 minutes, 41.32 seconds. Daniel Velasco joined Shane, Steffen and Hawbaker for a time of 19:31.24 to place third in the 4x1600 relay.

SA falls in five
MONROEVILLE — The South Adams baseball team finished with just one hit Friday in a 12-1, five-inning loss to the host Heritage Patriots.
Heritage took the lead with two runs in the first inning and then tacked on five runs apiece in the second and third. The Starfires got on the board with their lone run in the fifth inning.
Alex Augsburger gave up 10 runs — eight earned — on eight hits and two walks in the defeat. Eric Pimentel allowed two unearned runs in two innings of relief.
Corey Seffernick, South Adams’ senior catcher, ripped a double for the team’s lone hit. Brandon Dailey, who entered the game as a pinch runner for Augsburger, scored the only run for the Starfires (7-7).[[In-content Ad]]
