JCHS blasts Southside

Jay County roundup

MUNCIE - The Rebels scored 10 runs Monday. Tiffany Davis and Danielle Wellman drove in more than that by themselves.

The senior and freshman led an offensive onslaught by the Jay County High School softball team Monday night as it scored 11 runs in the second and third innings alone in a 19-10 victory over Muncie Southside.

The Patriots (5-3, 1-2 Olympic Athletic Conference) scored three times in the first inning, five in the second and six in the third to build a 14-1 lead. Southside tallied five runs in the bottom of the third inning, but JCHS kept scoring as well for the nine-run win.

Davis, the clean-up hitter, had three hits and drove in six runs as the top three hitters in the Patriot order crossed the plate 11 times. Wellman had a near-perfect day, finishing 5-fo-6 with five RBIs and three runs.

Pazia Speed notched two of the Patriots' five doubles and scored five times, Kendra Younger totaled four hits and three runs and Laura Castillo also scored three times.

Davis got the win, giving up six runs - four earned - on four hits and three walks in three innings.

Baseball falls to AC

Billy Wellman and Phil Powell each went deep, but it was not enough for Jay County as the Patriots lost 20-12 to the visiting Adams Central Flying Jets.

The Jets scored five times each in the fourth and fifth innings for a 12-3 lead, but JCHS rallied back to within two runs. However, Adams Central racked up eight runs in the top of the seventh to pull away.

Skyler Petty took the loss, and Ty Huntsman, Mike Masters and Michael Daniels tossed in relief.

Wellman and Powell each went 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs and two RBIs. Colton Lombardo also had two hits, two runs and two RBIs.

Boys golf splits

WINCHESTER - The Patriots settled for a split Monday night, finishing behind Monroe Central but ahead of the host Winchester Golden Falcons at Winchester Golf Club.

Jay County finished with a 183, three strokes in front of Winchester. Defending sectional champion Monroe Central won with a 169.

Adam Gray had the lone birdie of the day for the Patriots on the 296-yard, par-4 fourth hole on the Beeson nine at Winchester. He had three pars en route to a 43.

Zach Bookmeyer of Monroe Central, which had four scores of 43 or better, earned medalist honors with a 41.

Chase Wellman had three pars in his round of 45, and Adam Horn had four pars as he shot 46. Drew Houck and Isaac Poole each finished at 49, and Brad Horn had a 50.

JV baseball loses

MUNCIE - Jay County fell behind by 10 runs before getting on the board Monday in a 12-2 loss to the host Delta Eagles.

Andy Haffner took the loss for the Patriots, allowing 10 runs on four hits and four walks in three innings.

Jordan McBride drove in both JCHS runs with a double and a home run. David Rosenbeck doubled and scored a run, and Anthony Skeens and Anthony Robbins also had hits for the Patriots.[[In-content Ad]]
