Wiley Young and Neal Fennig led the Jay County High School boys swim team to its first victory Thursday, 150-133 over the visiting Norwell Knights. The Patriot girls lost 158-155.
Young and Fennig each posted a pair of victories for the JCHS boys (1-3), who will compete in the Norwell Invitational Saturday.
The first of Young’s victories came in the 200-yard individual medley as he cruised to a 14-second win in 2 minutes, 21.2 seconds. He also took the uncontested 100 butterfly in 1:02.64.
Fennig led a one-two finish in the 200 freestyle with a winning time of 1:55.58 ahead of teammate Caleb Hummel. He also took the 100 freestyle in 51.55.
Young, Fennig, Hummel and Luke Holcomb also teamed to win the 400 freestyle relay in 3:45.31.
Alex Sutton turned in the other victory for the Patriot boys with a time of 5:44.91 in the 500 freestyle.
Eme Miller turned in the only individual victories for the JCHS girls, taking the 200 freestyle in 2:12.81 with teammate Alyson Lucas in second place. She was also first in the 500 freestyle at 5:53.26.
The Patriot girls also won the 200 freestyle relay.

BERNE — Six swimmers each turned in two individual wins Thursday as South Adams cruised past the visiting Fort Wayne North Side Redskins. The Starfire girls won 143-38 while the boys team posted a  133-47 victory.
Erika Waugh led a pair of Starfire sweeps, winning the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 23.85 seconds ahead of Emily Miller and Kristal All. She also took the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:04.73 in front of Maddie Kloepper and All.
Joel Schmidt also powered a pair of sweeps for the boys team, finishing first in the 50 freestyle in 25.39 ahead of Jacob Werst and Dom Richert. He posted a winning time of 1:07.36 in the 100 backstroke with Lance Hummer second and Scott Neukam third.
Michael Rupp took the girls 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, Alex Fox was first in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly and Kara Delong picked up wins in the 50 freestyle and 500 freestyle.
Caleb Wurster took the 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle for the SAHS boys. Mitchel Kaverman won the 100 breaststroke, Richert took the 100 freestyle and Werst was first in the 100 butterfly.
The Starfires were uncontested in diving with Tessa Herrera first for the girls with 108.55 points and Josh Armenta first for the boys at 182.1.[[In-content Ad]]
