JCHS class plans reunion for July

A reunion has been planned for graduates of the class of 1979 from Jay County High School. Three events are set for Saturday, July 20.
Class of ’79 alumni are invited to gather for coffee and donuts from 8 to 11 a.m. at Jay County Public Library, 315 N. Ship St. in Portland.
A pitch-in dinner will begin at 1 p.m. at Haynes Park in Portland and another get-together will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Portland Elks Lodge, 126 W. High St.

Concert series
The summer concert series begins Saturday at Webster Depot Park in Dunkirk. All concerts will begin  at 7 p.m.  
The John Beatrice Band will play Saturday and Mix Factory will entertain on June 22. There will be no concert on June 29 due to the 4th of July celebration at the Dunkirk City Park. A fireworks display will be presented by Dunkirk Volunteer Firemen.
The Classics will perform July 6; Jay Fox Band will play on July 13; Boot Hill Band will be on July 20; Sound Effects & Kingsley Singers will perform on July 27; Reminisce will play Aug. 3; Dan’s Memory Lane will be Aug. 10 and the final concert of the summer will be Aug. 17 with Spittin’ Image.

Library news
There are numerous activities planned this summer at Jay County Public Library.  
• Tomorrow is the last day to register for the summer reading program for kids. Stop by the library at 315 N. Ship St. and sign up.

• Programs for kids are held each Monday at the library at 11 a.m., story times are each Thursday at 10 a.m. and crafts are each Friday at 2 p.m.   
• Friends of the Library will meet Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
• Design T’s for kids will be held Wednesday. White large size t-shirts will be provided or bring your own. Call the library at (260) 726-7890 to register.
• An Internet class for beginners will be offered Wednesday at Jay County Public Library from 10 a.m. to noon. Learn how to use a mouse, navigate a webpage and surf the web. Registration is necessary.
• For anyone interested in gardening, two classes will be held at JCPL. One for beginners will be Monday, June 24, and an intermediate class will be Tuesday, June 25, both at 6 p.m.
Learn which flowers, plants and vegetables will thrive in Jay County and when to plant. For more information, call Purdue Extension at (260) 726-4707.
The crochet club will meet Tuesday, June 25. Stop in between 5 and 7 p.m. and share patterns, ideas and skills.
Scholarship winner
The National FFA Organization awarded Jill Dirksen a $1,000 Ford Trucks/Built Ford Tough scholarship, sponsored   by Moser Motor Sales,  Inc.
Dirksen was a Jay County High School FFA member and plans to attend Purdue University.

Graduates
Brianne Wellman and Kylie Wellman recently graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington.
Brianne majored in political science/criminal justice with a minor in business and Kylie majored in dietetics.[[In-content Ad]]
