JCHS defeats tourney rivals

HARTFORD CITY - The first meet of the season against sectional opponents was a good one for the Patriots.

Jay County High School's gymnastics team defeated a pair of tournament foes Wednesday with a score of 95.625. Defending sectional champion Marion was second at 91.95 at the three-team meet while the host Blackford Bruins (76.425) were last.

Katie Snyder, a freshman, paced the Patriots with a victory on the vault with a 9.2 and the runner-up all-around score of 32.8. She was also second on the balance beam (7.975) and third on the uneven bars (7.7).

Snyder also scored for JCHS with a 7.925 on the floor exercise.

Senior Nadlie Runyon posted a 9.0 to win the floor, and was also third on the vault at 8.6. She had a 7.2 on the bars and a 6.6 on the beam.

Kristen Ainsworth finished second on both the floor (8.1) and bars (8.075). She scored for the Patriots on the vault (8.5) and beam (6.75).

No. 4 scores for the Patriots on each event came from Melynda Brackman on the vault (8.3) and floor (7.9), Jenna Barber on the bars (7.175) and Lexie Rowles on the beam (6.3).

Jay County continues its run of six straight road meets to open the season Saturday when it competes in the Richmond Invitational.

EJ tops Westside

UNION CITY - East Jay Middle School's sixth grade girls basketball team clobbered host Westside 60-6 Tuesday.

Gabby Hart scored 18 points for the Chiefs, who shut out Westside 30-0 in the second half. Cheyenne Loy joined her in double figures with 10 points, and McKayla Norris scored eight.

EJMS won the B team game 25-0 led by nine points from Lyla Muhlenkamp. Katie Mast followed with six points.[[In-content Ad]]
